The Apalachicola Maritime Museum is located on Water Street in Historic Downtown Apalachicola. It is within easy walking distance of the "Tin Shed". Just turn toward the John Gorrie Bridge. The museum was founded to preserve, celebrate, and promote the maritime heritage of Apalachicola in a hands-on learning environment with sailing excursions, river tours, boat-building, restoration, and educational exhibits. Learn about the rich and diverse history of the largest river in Florida and the fifth largest in North America, the Apalachicola. Their mission is also to broaden knowledge and appreciation of the river’s natural history and to encourage stewardship of its ecosystems. Estuary eco-tours, sailing excursions, working waterfront heritage tours, barrier island adventures, dinner cruises, airboat tours, and full moon cruises are available. Or rent a kayak from the new fleet made of 40% recycled plastic and explore the river, bay and estuary just beyond the docks. Free admission. Located at 103 Water Street, Apalachicola, where the river meets the gulf. (850) 653-2500. www.ammfl.org
