Reflections on Mexico Beach

              Fireworks, Tournaments, and Beaches

July is a time of celebration, fabulous fishing, and great times on the beach.   To celebrate Independence Day, an incredible fireworks display will occur on July 4 right off of the pier in downtown Mexico Beach.  Thousands of people will bring their chairs and sit right on the beach and watch the massive fireworks display which will begin at dark.   You can see the entire display from right on the beach.  Please remember to take out whatever you bring to the beach.  Keep our beaches beautiful and free of litter.

The Sandy Shoe 5K Race and Walk will be held at Palms Park on 7th Street, then a Kids Fishing Tournament for free on July 4.  For complete details go to www.mexico-beach.com and come on down.

The Mexico Beach Marina will sponsor the 7th Annual Offshore Classic on July 29 and 30th.  This two day tournament features king mackerel, wahoo, and dolphin.  This is a tournament for the serious offshore angler with lots of parties, prizes, and money to be won by the winning team.   Go to www.mexicobeachoffshoreclassic.com for complete details of the tournament.

The fishing has been out of this world!  With the beginning of red snapper season on June l, the parking lot at the new ramp has been jammed every day.   Hundreds and hundreds of anglers from all over are coming to Mexico Beach to enjoy the fabulous fishing offered around the hundreds of artificial reefs put out by the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association.

The beaches are truly beautiful this time of year as well.   The water has turned crystal clear around the beaches, and thousands of people are flocking to the beaches to relax, unwind, and enjoy the day.  The one mile stretch from Toucans down to Lookout Lounge is one of the most beautiful, unobstructed stretches of beach in the US.  Park your car on Highway 98 and walk 100 feet to the beach.  What a deal!

One can easily walk, jog, or ride your bike along that beautiful stretch now that the new sidewalk has been completed.  Lots of people are using the new sidewalk everyday as they bike, walk, or jog on this three mile run through downtown Mexico Beach and along the beach.  The construction workers were very careful to protect the stone paved driveways already in place, and they worked very hard to make the new sidewalk beautiful and compatible with the already existing driveways.  The sidewalk has really added to the beauty and quaintness of this wonderful little seaside community.  Lots of people are using it every day to exercise, walk their dog, complete a family bike ride, and just enjoying the amazing view.

Mexico Beach is truly a wonderful place to visit, a wonderful place to live, and a wonderful place to retire.
