JULY 2012
Big Bend Classic Fishing July 6-8
On Father’s Day weekend we had an overwhelming urge to head to the water’s edge in Carrabelle to watch the anglers weigh in their catches for the Big Bend Saltwater Classic. But we knew better! For the first time in more than two decades the largest charity fishing tournament in Northwest Florida wasn’t being held in June.
It has been moved to July 6-8.
Hundreds of men, women and youngsters participate in this Organization for Artificial Reefs (OAR) hosted event and tens of thousands of dollars in prizes are awarded in a variety of divisions and fish categories. It is one of the few fishing events in the area and country that give equal billing to shoreline and offshore fishing. Yep, you can win some mighty significant prizes without getting into a boat.
If you are strictly a spectator the best time to view fish is in the afternoons of July 6 & 7 and Sunday morning. Here’s the schedule…
